On December 5, 1784, the lodge “Zur Wohltätigkeit” (Charity) informed the other lodges of the forthcoming initiation of the "Kapellmeister (Conductor) Mozart", as a copy of this circular in our exhibition shows.
Mozart was fascinated by the enlightened spirit of Freemasonry and created many compositions for the lodge (“Kleine Freimaurerkantate“, “Maurerische Trauermusik“) and one for eternity, the “Magic Flute”, together with his librettist, brother Emanuel Schikaneder.
We show amongst other things a playbill advertising the premiere of “Magic Flute”, a display case with a historical stage view, a handwritten catalog of works and a guestbook entry of Mozart, which he wrote in English (!).
